These fellowships take place in many different countries (Germany, India, United States, Egypt, and others) and cover various specialties and operating procedures. The selected candidates travel for periods of two weeks up to one year and are able to develop their skills through observations and operations alongside renowned orthopaedic surgeons.

Any member applying for a Fellowship must be in good standing (with membership dues paid) for at least the previous two years. Applicants not meeting this criteria will not be eligible.

SICOT members who have already received any of the SICOT fellowships this year and last year should not apply for any Fellowship Programme.

Alexandria/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer two surgeons a six-month fellowship to Hadra Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Hospital, in Alexandria (Egypt). The Spine unit is an AOSpine-recognized unit for short-term fellowships. The accommodation will be provided for by Hadra Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Hospital. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only). Taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount. Airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis. The purpose of the fellowship is to receive training in different specialized departments. The candidate will choose between one or two departments. These include arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery, spinal surgery, paediatric surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, and orthopaedic oncology. The training programme will start in January and July of each year.

AO Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (open)

Every year, SICOT will offer two surgeons a six-week to three-month fellowship at the AO Hospital Private Ltd, located in Karachi (Pakistan). The purpose of this fellowship will be to offer the fellow an opportunity to get involved in sports surgery, knee arthroplasty and if felt appropriate involvement in other specialties within AO hospital.

Assiut University/SICOT Training Fellowship (closed)

Four to eight annual fellowships for a 3 to 6 months' training programme in the Assiut University Teaching Hospital are available for young English-speaking surgeons from Africa. The fellowship includes free full-board accommodation at the hospital, USD 100 per month for expenses, and a round trip economy class air ticket. The purpose of the fellowship is to receive training and experience. Permanent training programmes start in March and September.

Casablanca University/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers two surgeons a six-month fellowship to the Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Hospital, P32, in Casablanca (Morocco). The accommodation will be provided for by Casablanca Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Department. One return economy airfare between the fellow’s home country and Casablanca (Morocco) will be covered by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only).

Ganga/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers three surgeons four-week fellowships to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore (India). This hospital’s subspecialties are Trauma and Spine. SICOT will reimburse up to EUR 1,500 for travel (economy ticket only; taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount; airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis) and accommodation expenses. The accommodation will be arranged by the Ganga Hospital.

Hiranandani Orthopaedic Medical Education Fellowship (open)

Hiranandani Orthopaedic Medical Education (HOME) is a department that is dedicated to the field of clinical research in Orthopaedics. HOME is working on a number of projects related to clinical research in adult hip and knee surgery. HOME conducted its first workshop on scientific publication (WOSP) in December 2009, in collaboration with the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (British Volume). A number of scientific meetings have also been planned for the future. Research Fellowships, in adult hip and knee surgery, are offered by HOME.

Khoula/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers four surgeons twelve-week fellowships to Khoula Hospital in Muscat (Oman). The accommodation will be provided for by Khoula Hospital and SICOT will reimburse up to EUR 1,000 for travel expenses (economy ticket only; taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount; airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis). This hospital’s subspecialties are arthroplasty, sports medicine, spine, reconstructive surgery, complex fractures, oncology and many others.

Lagos National Orthopaedic Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers 2 surgeons a three-month fellowship to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Lagos (Nigeria). The accommodation and a monthly allowance will be offered by the National Orthopaedic Hospital. The travel expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only; taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount; airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis). This hospital’s subspecialties are Arthroplasty/Orthopaedics, Oncology and Paediatrics. The Fellowship will take place between January and November of each year.

Marmara University/SICOT Arthroplasty Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers four surgeons a three-month fellowship to Marmara University School of Medicine in Istanbul (Turkey). Marmara University Medical School is one of the biggest universities in Turkey. The university hospital is the Pendik Education and Research Hospital. Orthopaedic Surgery Department performs about 2500 elective surgeries per year in all fields of orthopaedics and traumatology. Arthroplasty Division is performing many primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries. This hospital’s subspecialties are arthroplasty and joint preserving surgery for hip and knee.

PKU Shenzhen Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers 10 surgeons a one- to two-month fellowship at the Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in Shenzhen (China). The Peking University Shenzhen Hospital will provide accommodation in a 4-bed dormitory. Should the fellow prefer another type of accommodation, the Peking University will help search for it. The Peking Hospital will also provide the fellow with a daily allowance of RMB 200. The travel expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only; taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount; airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis). This hospital’s subspecialties are spine surgery (3 places), sports medicine & rehabilitation (3 places), hand & microsurgery (3 places), and joint surgery (1 place).

TCH/SICOT Research Fellowship Programme (closed)

The Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is the largest and fastest growing children's hospital in the United States. TCH is nationally ranked number 4 among children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The state-of-the-art facilities provide primary, secondary and tertiary care for a diverse population of chronically and acutely ill children. TCH collaborates with the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to support a comprehensive pediatric medical education and research programme.
