University of Padova/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer two surgeon a six-weeks to one-year fellowship to the University of Padova (Padova, Italy). The specialties will be Tumors, General Musculoskeletal Oncology, Infection and/or Revision Surgery of Hips and Knees. Fellows can scrub in.

The University of Padova is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious seats of learning. The fellowship will be carried out at the Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Oncology - chaired by Prof. Pietro Ruggieri -, one of its 32 Departments. The Department staff (21 surgeons) performs about 3,500 elective/emergencies surgeries per year in all field of Orthopedics and Traumatology with special focus on Tumors, General Musculoskeletal Oncology, Infections and Revision Surgery of Hip and Knee.

The fellowship will offer the opportunity to gain experience and improve knowledge on primary and metastatic bone tumors in adults and children, benign and sarcoma tumors of soft tissues, complex reconstruction after wide resections (custom-made prosthesis and extendable prosthesis), evaluation of clinical and radiological outcomes in musculoskeletal traumatology, elective orthopedic surgery (arthroscopy and prosthesis implants) of hip, knee, and shoulder.

The travelling and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 2,500 (economy ticket only) for international fellows. Taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount. Airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis.
The accommodation expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 for national fellows. SICOT will not cover the travelling costs of national fellows.

Prerequisites

  • Must be a SICOT member with membership dues paid two years in a row at the time of the application (the year of the application deadline and the year before)

  • Must be 45 years or under at the beginning of the fellowship

  • Must have three or more years of specialised orthopaedic training at the time of application

  • Health insurance coverage during stay at centre

  • Medical check-up before travel (including lab results for blood tests)

  • Application form must be filled in

  • Priority is given to candidates having attended one or more SICOT Congress(es) in the past 4 years

  • Preference is given to international fellows.

  • Two recommendation letters, one must be from the current Head of Department

  • Motivation letter showing the motivation and the reason for wanting to attend this fellowship

  • Recent medical check-up (including lab results for blood tests)
