Surgeons from low income countries can apply for this 3 to 12 months’ Scholarship at the University of Toronto, Canada, to help them with educational opportunities. The low income country surgeon may be a resident, clinical fellow, or visiting scholar.
The aim of these Scholarships is clinical surgery, education, and research.
The Scholarship will take place between 1 July 2016 and 1 July 2017. The host department in Toronto provides a portion of financial support, up to $ 70,000 (for one year) to help the fellow during his stay.
Application process:
Letter of application (three page maximum) giving the following information:
Sponsoring faculty surgeon clearly identified;
Explicit educational objectives are;
Benefit of receiving the training in Toronto;
Strong preference if trainee is participating in direct patient care in Toronto (must have an educational license and observership model discouraged);
Plans for return to home country/region and incorporation of training into career progression are described;
Documented support from home program;
Patient population and benefit are identified;
Preference is given to applications supporting vulnerable populations (eg. children, women, the poor).
