HKU/SICOT Training Fellowship (closed)

Funded by SICOT & University of Hong Kong Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Hong Kong

 

The HKU/SICOT Fellowship will be awarded to two orthopaedic surgeons from Asia to undergo a twelve-week training program in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine, The University of Hong Kong.

 

Duration of Fellowship:

12 weeks



Fellowship Programme:

During the fellowship period, the awarded fellows will be given the opportunity to observe the clinical service and participate in research works in one of the following sub-specialty divisions: 

  1. General, Foot & Ankle

  2. Hand Surgery

  3. Joint Replacement Surgery

  4. Orthopaedic Oncology & Limb Salvage Surgery

  5. Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

  6. Orthopaedic Trauma

  7. Paediatric Orthopaedics

  8. Spine Surgery

  9. Sports and Arthroscopic Surgery

The fellowship includes:

  1. A round trip economy air ticket (reimbursed up to EUR 1000 by SICOT)

  2. Accommodation in student village

  3. Daily allowance of HK$ 100 for the duration of the fellowship

The fellowship does not include medical and travel insurance during the fellowship period. Fellows are advised to ensure this is organized because health care expenses in Hong Kong can be expensive.

There will be two places in the year 2024 (July to September and October to December). The result of the fellowship will be announced at the beginning of October 2023. Upon completion of the fellowship, a formal report is required from the selected candidate.

 

Prerequisites

  • Must be a SICOT member from Asia with membership dues paid two years in a row at the time of the application (the year of the application deadline and the year before)

  • Must be 45 years or under at the beginning of the fellowship

  • Must have at least four years of professional experience at the time of application

  • Health insurance coverage during stay at centre

  • Medical check-up before travel (including lab results for blood tests) 

  • Must have basic command of oral and written English; knowledge to communicate in Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese) is an advantage

  • Application form must be filled in

  • Priority is given to candidates having attended one or more SICOT Congress(es) in the past 4 years

  • Preference will be given to international fellows. SICOT will not cover the travelling costs of national fellows.

    • the professional experience in Orthopaedics (with month and year of beginning and ending)

    • the field(s) of interest

  • Two recommendation letters, one must be from the current Head of Department

  • A document proving the English level

  • Motivation letter showing the motivation and the reason for wanting to attend this fellowship

  • Recent medical check-up (including lab results for blood tests)

  • A best published scientific paper
